Hand Holding Hand

Share:

“We shall not give up the fight, we have only started, together we’ll have victory, hand holding hand!” All of the attendees at the Virginia99 Strategy Summit closed out a day full of big strategy and big vision by singing those words together, and those words captured the energy of the work we did together.

After a grueling legislative session in 2012, people across the Commonwealth were ready to stop protecting the status quo by defeating a seemingly endless right wing attack on the majority of Virginians. We’ve heard from a lot of our members that they’re still ready to stop the attacks, but the status quo isn’t good enough, and we actually need to win real improvements in people’s lives.

We talked mostly about expanding democracy and allowing seniors and the disabled to receive the care they need to live whole, healthy lives. In 2013, we can expect to see a renewed War on Women, War on Democracy, and War on Immigrants. But we can also expect to fight for a real growth in people’s access to the franchise and for increased care and coverage for seniors and their care providers.

Nearly everybody that came to the Strategy Summit left with an assignment to hold or attend a house meeting, talk to their legislator, and more. 2012 and 2013 offer a lot of hope for the well-being and security of all Virginians!
